Description
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Sword Description: I have owned this sword since 1996. It is still in the same condition as when it was purchased – I never used it! According to the provenance, this is a “WWII Japanese Army Officer’s sword with rare 2-ashi (suspension mount). The blade was traditionally hand forged circa 1573 and signed ‘Taira Shigeyuki.’ Condition of the mounts are excellent and the blade is in 98% polish. There is a silver button on the back of the kabutogane (pommel) embellished with a family crest. The Blade length is 21.5 inches measured from the munemachi to the tip of the blade. The yakiba or hamon is of the ‘Naka-suga ha’ or straight of medium width type. The blade has a rather pronounced curve (sori) and exhibits expertly crafted ‘mokume’ or burl grain to the steel. Overall, the qualities of workmanship point to the Takata tradition of workmanship. The presence of two tang holes indicates that the blade has been remounted several times.” The 1996 retail market value in the US for this sword was $2500.00 according to the appraisal in the provenance. The sword comes with a provenance from a member of the Japanese Sword Society US. Will ship insured to The US, Canada and Japan.Accepted Payment: PayPal or Money Order.Thank you for looking!
