The Houses were original to the area from homesteaders dating back 100+ years giving the wood a hard and aged exterior that only proper aging can attain. As with all handmade items, the faults in the wood give the piece completed an absolute unique look all its own. Stains have been applied for protecting from other weathering for outside uses. Master Wood Craftsman, John Cheek, when not fishing can be found in his shop salvaging the wood he will use to render his art which he does with care and pride. Unlike some makers who just make an item with little to no instinct of the wood or how to bring out the beauty it hides, Mr. Cheek's houses or frames are tended to with a hand that not only cares for the finished product, but the wood he is salvaging/recycling, its history and the process it takes to achieve perfection in the form of purposely placed imperfection.
