This is a version of one that I crafted for a sister-priestess, although each of these necklaces is one-of-a-kind. The gemstones are the most ancient combination of organic substance used in human adornment, and sacred to priestesses and shamans since time immemorial. Amber and jet, both the fossilized remains of prehistoric trees, provide the only complete spectrum of electrical and magnetic energies. This is a truly magnificent, one-of-a-kind ritual necklace, and one I am very proud of crafting. It is a combination of rich colors, with a gorgeous array of green Baltic amber, a much rarer shade than the classic honey. This is pure, clear amber, filled with 'sun-spangles' or flakes of radiant light. (These are caused by bits of matter and tree debris trapped in the amber millions of years ago. The great northern conifer forests of 60 million years ago, now sunk beneath the Baltic Sea, then flourished in a tropical climate where tree sap ran freely under the warm Sun.) There is a good deal of tree bark and plant debris in this amber. The green amber beads are 10mm. and 8mm. ovals. I've spaced the amber with 8mm. beads of genuine lignite jet from Mongolia, and and 4mm. faceted sterling beads. The beads are flanked with rope-edged sterling caps. All are spaced with liquid swirled silver. The necklace measures 23.5" around the neck and closes with a sturdy secure lobster clasp. The beading cable is double crimped in the back, with sterling bead covers over the crimps. There are 27 beads in the necklace which reduce to the Power of Three Times Three Times Three. The pentacle is the classic 'caduceus' superimposed over a pentacle, the most ancient symbol of the healing profession. (Although best known as the ancient Greek symbol of Aesculapius, this symbol actually originated in India, where it was the earliest representation of the double-spiral of energy encircling the kundalini 'serpent' that is the source of all life). This is also the exact pattern of the double-helix of human DNA. Hanging from the caduceus is a double-sided sterling blade, symbol of the medical profession. This is the classic athame of the Old Faith. It is also the symbol of the Goddess Hecate, Goddess of witches and priestesses, whose blade cuts the umbilical cord at the beginning of life and the soul from the body at the end of life. At the back of the necklace is a double sided crescent moon charm. All the elements are represented: the pentacle for Earth, the winged serpent for Air, the crescent moon for Water, and the blade for Fire. This is a true artisan necklace, crafted with only the finest grade of amber and jet. All metals are sterling silver.
