Description
This is a rare opportunity to own a very nice condition 1960s Gurley Model 112T solar transit with a Smith type solar attachment. This style of solar attachment was used by the General Land Office beginning about 1910 when they phased out the Burt type solar attachment, then up into the late 1960's by the Bureau of Land Management. This transit is in all original condition, never been anyone trying to restore it as collectors prefer. This type of transit was mostly used by the General Land Office, then after 1947 they turned into the Bureau of Land Management for surveying public lands, so probably is an ex-government transit. This is the type of transit referred to and pictured in the 1973 Manual of Surveying Instructions. It has a 8 inch long scope, a 4 1/2 inch compass needle and a 5 1/4 inch plate. Everything works just fine, motions are smooth and the optics and crosshairs are fine and the crosshairs have the added circle shaped hair for centering the sun inside. It comes with the accessories you see pictured including a a cherry original Gurley tripod, the original box, right angle solar eyepiece and regular one, some instructions and other little accessories, but no tripod. Priority postage for the transit and regualr mail for the tripod is $35.00 (to mail in 2 boxes) within the US, more if you would like insurance or are outside the USA. I will be glad to email additional photos if you send your email address. PAYPAL IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE FORM OF PAYMENT FOR BIDDERS RESIDING OUTSIDE THE USA, no charge for careful packing.
