Mahogany cased eight day chrono movement, brass dial surmounted by a model featuring galleon The Golden Hind  which is in 22 carat gold (sails and rigging), the sculptured and handcrafted ship is mounted on a marble plinth.   Made by Charles Frodsham & Company Limited of Topsham, Exeter for St James House Company  in 1982, it is numbered 8 for only 20 units created for world wide distribution   This is not a solid gold item! Let's be realistic, the hull alone (which is plated) would weigh in at 1/2 a Kilo if this were the case.   Pure or solid gold is very difficult to fashion and craft so other metals  like silver are added to the composition to make it more malleable  and workable for the craftsman   Weight            3.235 Kgs  (7 lbs) Height             25cm   10 ¼” Diameter         16cm   6 ¼”     Weight of 22 carat gold:   75gms  (2 ½ ozs).  At to-day’s gold prices that’s represents value to about $1900.  I have an old photostat showing the  original purchser  paid AUD4,500:00 for this model.   Condition View the images and detail carefully to make your own appraisal as to it’s grading. The piece has been displayed for the whole of it’s life in a glass fronted  case. There is some tarnishing discoloration on the inside of a couple of the sails, and   after standing for some  26 years I would consider that as acceptable   Clock ticks when wound but I doubt whether it has ever been used as a regular timepiece. I cannot guarantee  it’s working state.
