Description
 This ticket sold at New Hampshire State Liquor Store #1 located on North Main Street in Concord, New Hampshire to the then Governor John W. King, who signed into law the bill that created the first modern legal sweepstakes in the United States.  The New Hampshire lottery is the oldest operating legal lottery in the country and thus this ticket remains the first and oldest lottery ticket issues among lotteries in existence today.  The ticket, purchased by Governor King is #0000001 issued for the State of New Hampshire, 1st Sweepstakes Race, September, 1964.  Governor King completed the owner information in manuscript on the front of the ticket.  Additionally, the ticket is signed on verso by a number of officials as follows:  Henry Turcotte, Edward Sanel and Howell Shepard, New hampshires original three sweepstakes commissioners; Lois Smith, owner of Rockingham Park where the first Sweepstakes Race was held; Emmet Kelly, member of the state racing commission; Joe Millimet, counsel to the Sweepstakes Commission; Edward J. Powers, Sweepstakes Director; and James M. Kennedy, state racing director.  The ticket remains as a historically significant item from the sweepstakes race which were held at Rockingham Park and televised before a national audience on ABC.  The appraisal fair market vaule of the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Ticket #0000001 to be $7500.00 (Winslow, Appraisal Report, April 2007)This is truly a one of a kind item.  The ticket is professionaly framed and is in great condition.  I will include a copy of the appraisal from April 2007 and photocopy of the picture from the late governor king holding this historical ticket.
