Description
A classic close-up stereoview of California gold rush hydraulic mining operations at the Malakoff diggings in Nevada County. This view has great three-dimensional effect in a viewer. Taken from just behind the nozzle as the grizzled miner opens the control valve. One can see his checked shirt and dirty trousers (maybe early levis). Another miner works directly behind him. The water pipe can be seen at the right coming down the hill. The view is filled with spray from various hoses. Nicely titled in period manuscript "Hydraulic Mining. Foothills of Sierra Nevadas." Although published on an early yellow mount without printed title, this is "1820. Malakoff Diggings. North Bloomfield. Nevada County. Watkins Pacific Coast. San Francisco, California." Circa late 1860s. Very faint old center crease visible only on the back, o/w an attractive near excellent view. See all 3 scans. P> Buyer pays shipping and insurance. Payment by PayPal. Please note, shipping and materials cost for one view is approximately $2.00 for first class mail plus postal insurance for the actual value of the item. So, ignore the ebay shipping calculator, which is defective because it does not properly calculate the insurance.
