Description
This is an extremely attractive, interesting and I believe truly unique collection of Franklin Roosevelt items that have been professionally framed as a group as shown in the first picture, with closeups in three further pictures. All are in very fine condition. I believe they all relate to FDR and his law partner, Basil O'Connor, who later became director of the Warm Springs Foundation if my memory is correct. O'Connor is therefore one of those people who were close to FDR and Mrs. Roosevelt for many years and a person who had substantial impact on FDR's development, career and activities. As the pictures illustrate, one item is a Christmas card from the Governor's Mansion in Albany, that is, apparently as sent by FDR (I believe to O'Connor) during his short period as Governor from 1929 until shortly before he was inaugurated as President in March 1933. Also included, however, are White House place cards (for the President, for Mrs. Roosevelt and for O'Connor) and the dinner invitation, plus reply request, for November 18, 1933, again to O'Connor. I believe it is fair to say that this is something that serious historical collectors and especially those interested in Franklin Roosevelt items would find particularly interestting and probably very difficult, or more likely impossible, to locate elsewhere. I've owned these for several decades and am not eager to part with them but I need to thin out items to move to an apartment in New York after living in a house outside the City all of my life, so I'm making these available at what I believe to be a fair price. Given their rarity, however, this is very difficult and I am open to discussion and negotiation if interested people wish to contact me to make offers or to discuss the items in further detail. Although the items are presently in Cleveland, I travel frequently to New York and could bring them to meet there for examination if a serious buyer is interested. I do not think it makes sense to break up the collection or take them out of the frame so I would envision packaging them very carefully for shipment and have included shipping charges that reflect that; again, however, buyers with a different approach are welcome to contact me.
