This is an auction for an antique Dresden Diecut highly embossed three dimensional rocking toy with a young girl wearing a light blue dress with white dots in its design and a white lace collar riding on the back of a St. Bernard Dog.  She holds onto his collar with her right hand and holds onto his looped leash with her left hand  as the toy rocks back and forth. The embossing is very detailed with hundreds of waves in the dogs fur coat, the dogs tongue is bright red and ovoid and hangs out of his mouth, the dress of the little girl is embossed with an outliine around it -that makes her appear three dimensional, and the rockers have a detailed embossing with scrolls and five "x"s near the base of the rockers. The St. Bernard Dog is mounted into a slot in a wooden board acting as the base of this antique toy and the tops of the embossed rockers are nailed into the edge of the wooden board. This toy has an overall shine to it, that suggests it may have been given a coat of varnish or shellac over it in the factory. This definitely reduced any wear to this three dimensional antique rocking toy which would have been handled alot, if played with. The lithography is very detailed from the tiny holes in the girls lace collar, to the white dots on her blue dress, the hem in her dress and pull lines in the dress indicating the large bow on the back of her dress is tightly secured. The buckel on the dogs collar shows how the leather of collar/leash passes through the yellow metal buckel, as the leather is encircled by the brass ring. The detailing of the lithography is so fine, it gets down to many individual hairs on the dog and to the little girls eye lashes and eye brows. Condition: Near Mint to Mint Condition. The tips of the rockers tend to have a very slight bend inward. Please look at all the photographs of this wonderful brightly colored antique lithographed paper and wood toy. This toy has the girl sitting upright when placed on a level table top. (In some of the photos on this auction site you may see the toy leaning forward or backward and that is due to the fact the photos were taken on an uneven primitive table top.)
