Description
CCGS Walter E. foster Model Ship Scale 1/8" =1' 0"  Overall length 28"   The CCGS Walter E. Foster, a Coast Guard Vessel and Icebreaker was based in Saint John, New Brunswick.   This model was built in 2000 by Mr. Mark Boudreau of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia who has been building model ships since he was 17 years old. To date he has constructed a total of 32 models of ships. Some of Mark's work is on display at the New War Museum in Ottawa, The Railway and Coastal Boats Museum in Newfoundland and The Halifax Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, NS. And some of his models have been sold to private collectors in Canada, US and abroad.  The hull of the CCGS Walter E. Foster is constructed of bass wood. Four coats of primer and two coats of a high quality paint were applied. All of the other parts were made by hand from wood, brass, wire and thread. Some parts were casted with a product called CR-900 High Strength Casting Resin. This is a very light weight resin especially designed for model making. The CGS Walter E. Foster model is a museum quality replica of the original CCGS Walter E. Foster. It was built from scratch using a scaled down copy of the original blueprints. It is displayed in a Solid Oak Case built by Mark.(The glass will be removed when it's shipped however it would be included if the buyer picks the model up at Mark's  house.) The Walter E. Foster would stand out in any collection. If handed down from generation to generation it would certainly be considered an heirloom. Mr Boudreau is starting the bid at $6000. Considering the cost of material, the time and patience involved in having tackled a project such as this and most importantly the expertise of the craftsman, this a more than reasonable starting price.    Mr. Boudreau has been recognized by his peers in the marine modeling community both in Canada and the United States as a Master Craftsman who produces extremely high quality and accurately crafted scaled ship models. He told me that his father worked on several different ships and he recalls travelling at age seven with him from Mulgrave to Canso on the "SY Surf". That was the beginning of a lifetime interest in ships. He tackled his first model when he was 17 and has continued on with the craft ever since. It's obvious that Mr. Boudreau strives for perfection. These labour intensive projects involve producing by hand every part and fitting that goes in the reproduction. Ensuring everything is in proper scale the process of building the model ship only comes after intensive research into the ship and its' history. Mark has sent letters to as many as 60 different registries and archives around the world in his effort to obtain information and the plans so his completed  project would be an accurate representation of the original ship.       .                                                                                                                                                            anyone interested Mr. Boudreau   Mark also has photos of his models available on DVD for 12 dollars which includes the shipping cost. Some of the models pictured on this DVD are also for sale. (Also if someone wants to buy a particular model, Mr. Boudreau will build it if he's able to cobain a copy of the original blueprints).   NOTE:  The shipping charge of $250 that is indicated is for within Nova Scotia only. For all other destinations please email me at navigair@ns.sympatico.ca for the cost of shipping and insuring to your area. If you wish to call Mr. Boudreau at 1-902-625-2880 he will be happy to answer any inquires. If you prefer to write, his mailing address is:  Mr. Mark A. Boudreau 419 Sydney Road Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia B9A 3B2 Canada
