The photographer was a German-Brazilian Explorer called Alexandre Wulfes.     THE ORIGINAL COLLECTION   This rare and unique Photographic Collection, comprises 259 pictures and 3 newspapers clipping of epoch.  All items were preserved and are intact inside the original albums. All pictures are in perfect conditions. The original Collection is a real treasure and belongs to the Documentation Center of the Mankind Museum of Rio de Janeiro.  It is a lifetime treasure and the results of a life devoted to Exploration and Photography. It shows innumerable places and Brazilian Indian tribes in primitive way of life.  Most of the tribes portrayed disappeared by now. For this reason, this Collection has an immense value and is very, very representative. Some places shown were small villages at that time, and now are big cities. This collection is a real document in terms of ethnography, but also of urban development.  In Brazil, no one institution has such a representative Collection of unseen pictures!      THE MAN   Alexandre Wulfes (1901-1974) started his career as a professional photographer. He considered himself as one of the last explorers of the XIX Century. He had the feeling for adventure and was attracted by danger. He followed the steps of his father, who was a photographer of the Kaiser of Prussia.  In 1922 he took part in the exploratory expeditions led by the famous Brazilian Explorer Marshal Rondon. Later he obtained a special permission from the Brazilian Government in order to carry out his own Project. At that time, he traveled throughout a big part of Brazil, taking pictures and shooting for films about the Brazilian hinterlands. Widely known for a successful career as a professional Photographer, he published many books.  He was a representative agent of the Fan Films in Brazil and Director of Cia. Cine P. Mattogrossense. As a cineaste, he had authorization of the Brazilian Government to make films of places considered of national security. His work included both aerial and terrestrial shoots and it was considered of great value at that epoch. As a consequence, he found places not yet known.  Some places were complete unknown and inhabited by fiercely Indians. Other Indians were very pacific and kind, Sometimes, there was a complete integration among them.  His work was widely publicized in newspapers and other means of communication at that time. In his long life devoted to exploration he collected material in order to make a big Project. His big Project: The Giant of South America, was never concluded. As a celebrated cineaste he won prizes in England and other places abroad. In October of 2008, a Festival in TRIESTE (Italy) will celebrate his efforts. His most important film is Alma do Brasil (Soul of Brazil).  In the forties, Alexandre Wulfes opened a cine-laboratory in Botafogo (Rio de Janeiro) He introduced his nephews Herbert and Eurico Richers to the arts of Cinema. Herbert Richers now is a leading Company of Translations in Sao Paulo.     A LIFETIME TREASURE   This Collection was not seen by people. Neither was it published. Most of the people and tribes portrayed no longer do exist. Millions of Brazilian Indians were killed from the Conquest until our days.    The pictures show their faces…You can see their eyes, and witness their joy and sorrows. Their health and their diseases. The children playing in joy and the old man and the old woman thinking about their fate. Also, you can see how they worked. How they make rituals. How they live… All of them perished !The only souvenir of them now is this vibrant picture collection. And now, you can know more of their world and almost talk with them.   They are there to be discovered !     THIS OFFER : A PHOTOGRAFIC FACSIMILE OF THE COLLECTION   This rare Facsimile collection assembles 259 unseen pictures.
