First card - Top - This is the Wakefield stage line's stagecoach "Bighorn" involved in the first Yellowstone National Park holdup (Gardiner Canyon, July 4, 1887) for which bandits William James and Charlie Higgenbotham were convicted. The building is Mammoth Hotel, constructed 1883-1886. Photograph by Frank Jay Haynes, 1886. Bottom - Million-dollar Northern pacific Railway trestle spanning the Missouri River est of Bismarck, Dakota Territory, formally opened October 21, 1882. Each of the three 400-foot spans was tested with eight locomotives October 23, the day Frank Jay Haynes took this photograph in 1882. Second card - Top photo - Gatling gun battery, Fort Lincoln, Dakota Territory showing military quarters and blockhouse, Jume 1877. Photographed by Frank Jay Haynes within the year following the battle (1876) of the Little Bighorn, the Custer Massacre. Bottom photo - Norris tent lunch station erected immediatly following destruction by fire, July 14, 1887, of the large frame hotel built on the same site yhe previous year.
