1949 SCHWINN Autocycle (Excelsior) last year produced Start Price USD 399.00 Current Price USD 559.00 Time Left - Bid Count 7 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Wednesday, November 19, 2008 End Time Monday, November 24, 2008 Location Lawrence, Kansas See more about '1949 SCHWINN Autocycle (Excelsior) last year produced' Description According to the serial number (F290516) this Schwinn autocycle (with Excelsior nameplate) was produced in Oct. 1949.  In researching Schwinn bikes on the Internet, this 1949 Schwinn would have been the last year for the autocycle (& Excelsior) because Schwinn had just came-out with the production of the Black Phantom.  This was supposedly the last year that Schwinn manufactured a bike with someone else's label, and the time when they introduced retail distributorships.  Perhaps this transition period explains why this original seat is like that of a Phantom.  The original paint on this bike is very nice; however, the faded tank was repainted to match the rest of the bike.  It also looks nice.  The original chrome is decent and the pedals and grips are original and in excellent condition.  The seat has many tiny cracks on the leather but it is still solid with no rips or tears.  Inside the light and horn are clean & fresh (no rust).
