This fantastic, Card Mount CDV Photo measures approx. 2" x 3 3/8" and is mounted on its original, square corner, gilt border card mount (overall size 2 1/2" x 4"). The Photo has the photographer's mark on the back that reads "Barcalow, 70 Bowery, N.Y." and also has a 2cent Proprietary Revenue Stamp attached. The style of the card mount and the Revenue Stamp date the image to the Civil War period. This is a full length image of a Sailor wearing a uniform consistent with some worn by Union Sailors during the Civil War and his hat band has text that identifies his ship although we can only make out fragments of the lettering. It is truly amazing how young this Navy Sailor appears to be. He is surely no older than 16 years and likely a few years younger.     This outstanding, ca1864 CDV Photo is in excellent condition. The albumen Photograph is clean and crisp with sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. The Card Mount is also crisp and sound with sharp corners and some soiling on the reverse.
