'NAPOLEON' was the greatest Military leader of all time.  Exquisitely finely made in the mid 1800's, by the old French craftsmen of the day, by hand in solid extra fine GOLD. Please look at this exquisite French workmanship, the enamel and gold work was all done by hand, and is just superb, it is just an incredible beautiful piece of world artwork. These Officer class Legion of Honour's are extremely rare, and are normally only found in exclusive fine private collection, or found displayed in the museums of Paris and Prague. This stunning French Order is in the most fantastic condition that we have ever seen, extremely rare in this extra fine condition, considering it's age. Soldiers awarded this Gallantry decoration wore them in actual combat on their battle tunics, most often battles were fought by hand to hand combat. It is nearly impossible to find this particular French Legion of Honour, especially in this fine condition, most are in museums or in private collections.   History The Légion d'honneur or Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur, established by Napoleon Bonaparte on May 19, 1802.  It is the premier order of France, and its award is one of great distinction, with various titles depending on degree, such as Chevalier, Officier and Grand-Croix or Grand Cross The order’s motto is Honneur et Patrie (Honour and Fatherland), and its seat is the Palais De La Legion D' Honneur on the left bank of the river Seine in Paris.
